The battle of domestic workers in Karnataka for fair pay and working conditions is over 20 years old. What To Do When You’re Laid-Off or Terminated From A Job

You’ve worked long hours in the same job for years only to find the ax landed on you and not your co-worker. You ask why did this happen or what could I have done to prevent this from happening to me. That’s logical thinking and you know what, the signs where there all the while you were working to earn a living for yourself and family. Most companies are well prepared to lay-off, downsize or terminate you with or without warning. Refer to the last page on the application that clearly states employment “AT WILL”.

Here are a few signs to watch for when you likely being laid off or terminated.

1). You are no longer invited to attend company meetings.

2). You are not included in company emails or chats.

3). Colleagues avoid you like a plague, including eye contact, online chatting, etc.

4). Your immediate supervisor behavior changes towards you. He/she will not sacrifice their career just to save yours.

5). The HR department communicates with you via telephone oppose to video or in-house. Beware when this happens most likely the conversation is being recorded. Always ask at the beginning of the conversation am I being “recorded”. You will thank me later for including this piece.

These are just a few hints something is happening although there are other signs to explore but numerous to mention.

Now that your employer has released you without warning what’s next?

Contact you the HR department via email or USPS certified mail about a severance package. Some company will make you an offer but before you accept check with your attorney for legal advice. DO NOT negotiate a severance package yourself unless you are absolutely sure what you are entitled to receive. Remember, these are the same people who interrupted your livelihood without warning why risk talking with them during negotiations. Protect yourself and let the attorney take the lead.

If you have access to any company emails, equipment or other materials delete out ALL personal information BEFORE they permanently deny you from the system. This includes databases, cell phones, tablets, iPad or any mobile devices you were given while employed with the company.

If your termination was due to whistle blowing, discrimination, medical or family leave contact your attorney for legal guidance. You might be able to file a lawsuit for violation of any laws. Again, always talk with your attorney beforehand.

Contact your immediate supervisor for a RETURN LABEL to send any company equipment or materials within a specified time. He/she is responsible to notify you the timeline to return these items. Take photos of all return items being shipped (inside the box) and keep a copy of the receipt and tracking number for you records.

Review all company documents you signed while employed. Why, you want to know if you were wrongfully terminated or within your rights to challenge the termination. This is a very sensitive period and employers can be very manipulative because they know more about you through data and other sources in their arsenal ready to launch.

If you established business connections be sure to contact them as soon as possible to let them know you are no longer with the company. This will be a huge step to find another position quickly depending if you cultivated these relationships.

The Path To A Career As An Electrician

There are a variety of options when you look at how to become an electrician. It all depends on the program you pursue and the area you would like to focus on. College graduates are almost twice as likely as high school graduates to receive formal training from their employers.

Access to this training is important because it directly affects an employee’s earning capacity. Training can increase the salaries of employees of 3 to 11 percent, with formal training offering higher yields than informal training.Education, training in the workplace, and workplace technology tend to be sequential and complementary in the production of productivity and income.
